What the … is going on?
Make it stand out
It’s getting increasingly difficult to write this first section of the newsletter every month. Picking a single topic to comment on is already a challenge, but then - just before we hit send! - something even more outrageous hits the news. (sigh)
Just yesterday, Easter morning, Trump sent an exceptionally unhinged message to the Iranians. This is part of what many Substack authors are describing as setting up the structural conditions for the next coup attempt at the Midterms. Timothy Snyderissues a warning that we need to recognize the details of the coup scenarios in order to stop them in time. Paul Krugman posted an unscheduled video expressing his alarm at the President’s outburst this morning. JB Pritzker took a broader view, looking at Trump’s proposed budget and the cuts to virtually every beloved social program to fund his huge expansion of the Defense budget (which Snyder calls a bribe to the military).
But the spirit of No Kings remains with us. As Snyder highlights, we are the cavalry. Millions of Americans feel the way we do and, united, we can stop this tide.
NO KINGS!
PCA Democrats joined thousands of other Dallas pro-democracy citizens in raising their voices: America has No Kings! Fabulous signs were everywhere, but we thought the signs above really succinctly caught the true sense of our current era.
The event had its usual, festival vibe as we rejoiced in joining our like-minded community, showing up with millions of others across the nation. CPAC attendees like Enrique Tarrio tried to disrupt the joy, but lilac-vested volunteers were ready to peacefully diffuse any situation.
As usual, Park Cities Area Dems met early to make signs and travel downtown together via DART. If you haven’t joined us in the past, pencil us in for No Kings 4!

Despite being Spring Break, it was standing room only to hear Kendall Scudder dish the latest about the primary election, working with the DNC and how the Texas Democratic Party is building infrastructure beyond the election cycles to recruit great candidates and turn Texas blue!
Infrastructure was the buzzword heard for fundraising this month. Political infrastructure builds campaigning capabilities outside of individual candidates’ campaigns to survive and grow from cycle to cycle.
At the event for Texas Blue Action, Executive Director Lana Hanson spoke about her group’s success in building a relational organizing network, a highly successful approach to campaigning using peer-to-peer communications. Blue Action is building its network to reach Texans everywhere in the state. PCA Dems were there cheering them on!
